Contact lenses are the solution for all those people who do not want to wear glasses at all or only occasionally.
Can you imagine forgetting your glasses for that wedding, or to go to the gym, or for that trip? But like everything else in life, wearing contact lenses versus glasses has its advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages
- As the lenses are glued to the eye, they offer a better field of vision and eliminate aberrations caused by normal lenses. Unlimited natural vision.
- They are the perfect solution for the practice of sports as they give us maximum freedom of movement.
- They are also recommended for outdoor activities, as they are not affected by weather conditions, so theydon’t get wet or foggy!
- Rigid contact lenses or Ortho-K lenses allow you to temporarily correct myopia by wearing them at night. You wear them while you sleep and during the day you don’t need glasses, cool, huh?
Disadvantages
- Putting on glasses is easier than putting in contact lenses. It involves less risk and less practice, but in the long run this point is overcome. Once you have learned the technique, you will be able to put them in and take them out without any problem.
- Wearing contact lenses requires more attention to cleaning and hygiene routines. It is very important to keep maintenance at bay to avoid infections and other complications. If you think this is going to be complicated for you, don’t worry, there are disposable lenses (you get new lenses every day) with which you only have to worry about washing your hands.
- Prolonged use of contact lenses can cause dry eye problems, especially if you wear them for long hours in front of screens. That is why we recommend a tear study and a follow-up to make sure that the hydration of the eye is adequate.
Millions of people wear contact lenses every day. It’s a safe and hygienic way to correct vision and almost everyone can wear them. In fact, the final decision rests with you, the patient, as a matter of taste and preference. But you must be clear that although we can use glasses extensively without risk, the same cannot be said of contact lenses. To avoid problems, the ideal is to combine both solutions: wear contact lenses but always have a pair of glasses with your prescription ready in case you need to take a break!
