Vision is the most valued sense by 85% of the population.
Times have changed. Now we need our eyesight to discuss via whatsapp, rate an establishment, contact our friends… with the invasion of technology, screens and electronic devices, our eyes have become essential to communicate and we are asking them to make an extra effort. So it’s time to take better care of them.
Today we propose 5 super-tips to take care of your eyesight:
- The most important thing is to keep your visual acuity in check.
Visual acuity tells us how well you see and whether or not you need correction. Failure to use proper correction can aggravate visual problems. Visit your optometrist every year to keep your prescription under control and to prevent other diseases.
2. Maintain a healthy diet.
Yes, yes, beyond the saying that you eat for your eyes, your eyes need to eat well. A diet rich in vitamins A, C and E, omegas and minerals will help our vision stay healthy for much longer, preventing serious conditions such as AMD.
3. Control the use of screens.
On this part we could write a whole article but in broad strokes don’t forget:
-
- Regulating the use of screens.
- Keep a safe distance.
- Wear protection against harmful blue light, whether you need glasses or not.
- Adjust the light intensity and contrast of the screen to eliminate reflections that may hinder vision.
- Always use the screens with good ambient lighting, preferably natural light, never in the dark.
- Rest, use the 20/20/20 rule. For every 20 minutes to look away 20 seconds, so your eyes take a kit-kat.
4. Always use sunscreen.
You’ve heard it a thousand times but in winter and summer, if you are exposed to the sun, wear your sunglasses. UV rays do not understand the seasons, they are always there.
5. Keep your eyes hydrated and clean.
It is very important that if you notice that your eyes are dry, visit your optometrist so that he/she can recommend a natural tear. Dry eye affects more than 50% of the population and if not treated correctly can cause corneal injury and very uncomfortable symptoms. On the other hand, you should know that eyes are also cleaned. If you use makeup regularly or work in dusty environments, use specific products for daily eye hygiene. You will see how this will reduce discomfort and prevent infections.
We could go on with a very long list but we believe that with these 5 points you can ensure a good vision: clear and free of diseases. If your eyesight is really that important to you, give it the importance it deserves.
Happy #worldvisionday!
